Hayley Kellett has 16 years of listening practice. As the Improv Incubator Director at The Making-Box Improv in Guelph, Hayley has made a career of listening, connecting and responding.
Hayley grew up in Mississauga, moved around Canada before opportunities at The Second City lead her to settle in Toronto. At 18, Hayley became the youngest instructor ever to teach at The Second City Toronto. Love and Business brought her to Guelph where she became a Co-Owner of The Making-Box in 2014.
Her life at the Making-Box has allowed her to connect with the community and invoke change. The Making-Box’s mission statement is to Build Community through Comedy. The programs that Hayley builds and presents are made to help lift diverse voices and provide opportunity to all sections of the community. Hayley’s students have ranged from pre-school to seniors, from nurses to engineers to inmates.
Hayley is a Guelph Woman of Distinction (2018), Guelph Top 40 Under 40 (2016), Canadian Comedy Awards Best Female Improviser Nominee (2015), NOW Magazine’s Best Female Improviser (2015), Rhyze Academy Mentor, Board Member of the Guelph Comedy Festival, and together with the Making-Box, she was nominated for Innovation Guelph’s Best Startup Of The Year (2017), Guelph Chamber of Commerce’s Community Spirit Award (2017) and Guelph’s Community Innovator Award (2018).
Hayley’s ability to connect with diverse audiences has made her a popular choice for hosting and emceeing duties among Guelph’s gala and event circuit. Highlights of Hayley’s hosting experience includes Hope In The Street, Hillside Festival, The Guelph Multicultural Festival, The Guelph District Home Builders Association’s President’s Ball and the Guelph Chamber of Commerce Awards. She also created and hosts a bi-monthly evening that features an all-woman and non-binary lineup of sketch, improv, stand-up called The Future Is Funny.
Hayley is passionate about the Green message and is confident that her unique ability to listen, connect and respond will allow her to get that message to the forefront of the upcoming federal election. “I had never wanted to join anything political until I was introduced to the community that is the Guelph Greens. Mike Schreiner is an inspiration and I am excited to become part of the movement, in any capacity.”
