Steve Dyck lives in Guelph Ontario with his love, best friend, spouse and life partner Vera. They have two adult children, Nathan (27) and Amber (25). Steve and Vera are energizing community leaders. They have deep connections in Guelph’s social justice community, having participated for many years in Guelph Wellington’s Bridges Out of Poverty Circle. In addition, and they are founding members of a multi-faith bridging group to build peace through friendship. As founder and President of Guelph Solar, Steve has been instrumental in creating green economy jobs in Guelph since 2009. It is Steve’s dedication to community and future generations that drives his commitment to a sustainable world.
Steve grew up in Northern Alberta where all of his family works in the oil and gas industry. It is Steve’s vision that Alberta will have green employment opportunities similar to what Steve has created with Guelph Solar; a company that has been awarded, “The Excellence in Business Award” from the Guelph Chamber Commerce.
As a key volunteer and active member of Fair Vote Guelph and Democracy Guelph, Steve organized numerous town halls and debates on electoral reform. Steve believes we have a democracy deficit and that the current electoral process must evolve to ensure that every vote counts. Democracy and the environment are close to Steve’s heart and he endorses these values by signing off his e-mail with, “The sun is a very democratic power system, it shines for everyone.”
In 2016, Steve received “The Guelph Bridge Builders Award” from the Muslim Society of Guelph, recognizing his efforts to build peace through friendship. Steve is also a volunteer for the Guelph Citizens Climate Lobby and has travelled to Ottawa to engage MPs to create a transparent fair price on carbon. Steve says “A fair price would be revenue neutral – everyone would pay the same price per tonne for carbon pollution; and everyone would receive the same carbon cheque.”
Steve is an energetic and dedicated member of the Green Party and was a Guelph Green candidate in the 2011 provincial election. He is a regular participant of the GPC and GPO conventions, was a former Vice President of the Guelph Green Executive, and was a chief fundraiser in the recent successful provincial campaign.
Steve is a trusted Green business voice in Guelph. His years of outstanding public service and living Green values make him an excellent Guelph Green MP candidate.
“I am seeking the Guelph Green nomination to build bridges of trust so people can vote for a plan that puts people and the planet first. Canadians deserve elected members of Parliament that listen to their concerns and treat them with respect and honesty. I will work to build these bridges among all Canadians for a prosperous community that protects our shared healthy and sustainable future.”
